VIDEO: Friendship Bracelet Pattern: Diagonal Stripes
Watch this video to learn one of the basic knots in friendship bracelets: the forward spiral knot. Once you've mastered this knot, learn how to make an easy pattern: the Diagonal Stripe.
Step 1. Gather your supplies. | |
| Step 2.
Cut several pieces of Friendship Thread to a desired length. Our example shown here shows 5 colors of thread each cut to 24 inches. Tie a knot about 1 - 1 ½ inches from the end with all 5 strands. |
| Step 3. Clip knot under clipboard to secure while crafting. Separate strands out, arranging them in the order in which you want your colors to appear. To make the diagonal knot pattern, you will start from left to right and label the strands 1 (pink), strand 2 (orange), strand 3 (yellow), strand 4 (green), strand 5 (blue). |
| Step 4. To start the first diagonal row, take strand 1 (pink) and cross over strand 2 (orange) leaving a loop. |
| Step 5.
Take the end of strand 1 and pass under strand 2. |
| Step 6.
Pull strand 1 through the loop created in step 4. |
| Step 7.
While holding strand 2 tight, pull strand 1 to form knot. This is a spiral knot. |
| Step 8. Repeat Steps 4 – 7 with strand 1 (pink) and strand 2 (orange). You have now made (2) spiral knots. |
| Step 9. You will now begin to move across the strands to create your diagonal row. Take strand 1 (pink) and strand 3 (yellow) and repeat the spiral knots shown in steps 4-7 twice. This will create (2) pink spiral knots around the yellow strand 3. |
| Step 10. Repeat (2) spiral knots with strand 1 (pink) and strand 4 (green). |
| Step 11. Repeat (2) spiral knots with strand 1 (pink) and strand 5 (blue). You have just completed your first diagonal row! |
| Step 12. To create your second diagonal row, consider the new labels for the strands as they now appear from left to right. Strand 1 is orange, 2 is yellow, 3 is green, 4 is blue and 5 is pink. Repeat steps 5 – 12 to create a diagonal row with the orange strand. |
| Step 13. Repeat steps 5-12 with each left most strand to create the continuous diagonal knot pattern. |
| Step 14. Now you're a diagonal stripe pattern expert!
